MA60s Around the World

The second generation Toyota Supra, the MA60, was built for several markets around the world. The United States, Canada, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. Each market had a multitude of different options and differences based on local regulations, such as emissions and DOT.

Outside of North America, the MA60 had rear vents instead of reflective parking marker lights. The front wrap around turn signal lenses (84-86) had a raised, angular piece instead of the North American's flat lense. Also, with the exception of Japan and the U.K., all MA60s were received with what North Americans know as RA64/65 Celica hatchback tail lights, and not the atypical Supra tails.

The Supra was sold in the Sweden and Switzerland markets from 1984 through 1986. The Australian market MA60 from 1984 on and they only came as the "P-type" variant, except that digital instrument clusters were standard, as well as the 2.8 liter, 138bhp single overhead cam 5M-E engine. MA60 was only sold in New Zealand for 1984 and 1985, but had the 5MGE engine installed.

In most of Europe; France, Germany, Spain, etc, the MA60 was sold from 1982 through 1986, as both the L-type and P-type with features much like the Canadian market with L-types having the analog cluster, and the P-types having a digitial cluster. The European 5MGE engine allegedly put out 174-178bhp, most likely due to having completely different camshafts and a non-existent emissions system (no EGR or catalytic converter).  Most European Supras (including the U.K.) have been noted to have LSD rear ends.
